Background:
The Johne’s Education Initiative is a response to needs identified
in the Johne’s Strategic Plan. The focus is on producers and those
who work with them. Basic funding is being provided by APHIS, but
one of the needs is to demonstrate industry support for the Johne’s
program. It is anticipated that this will provide opportunities to
increase funding for education efforts associated with the project.
Mission: To provide producers and those who work with them reliable,
useful, easy to access information about Johne’s Disease that is
based on the best current science.
Objective:
Through the initiative we will enhance awareness of the disease
within the industry resulting in an increase in producer support of
and participation in the Johne’s Control programs. As a result we
will:
-
Reduce the
likelihood of introduction of Johne’s into currently uninfected
herds or flocks
-
Minimize the
impact of the disease in herds or flocks where it is already
present, and
-
Control
existing cases of the disease and while working to reduce the
incidence in susceptible species.
